At Wonder Bunny Adoptables, we hope to make the adoption process as easy and meaningful as possible. The details that you share will help us provide the best match with your new bunny.
Please read the adoption policies below in their entirety. Then, fill out and submit the adoption application that follows. We will contact you directly as soon as we are able!
Adoption Policies Our top commitment is to our Wonder Bunnies and their health and happiness. This commitment guides the policies below.
Single vs Bonded Bunnies
Policy: We only adopt out bonded pairs/groups or single bunnies that will be bonded to an adopter's current bunny.
Rationale: Rabbit are social animals that do best with companionship of their own species with very few exceptions.
Housing
Policy: Adopters must commit to housing the Wonder Bunny they adopt indoors and free-roam or with a large x-pen habitat with several hours of free-roam exercise every day.
Rationale: There are many risks to housing rabbits outside, like bugs and parasites, RHDV2 and other diseases, and predators (which can scare a rabbit to death!). Rabbits are very active animals that need plenty of exercise like a dog or cat.
Primary Caretaker
Policy: The primary caretaker of the Wonder Bunny must be a responsible adult who is committed to the safety and well-being of the bunny.
Rationale: As prey animals, rabbits are good at hiding any illness and injury until the situation reaches emergency-level. Even then, the visible signs are sometimes very subtle, like only eating half of their breakfast, or not wanting to run during playtime. It is essential for a rabbit's health that their caretaker knows their signs and is able to get them care ASAP.
Other Pets
Policy: Potential adoptive homes with other-species pets will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Rationale: Our commitment is to the well-being and safety of our Wonder Bunnies. As prey animals, many rabbits are scared around predators, like cats, dogs, and reptiles. Even if the rabbit is not afraid of the other-species pet, and that pet is of gentle temperament, cross-species introductions should be done slowly and their interactions must always be supervised, even once they are comfortable with each other.
Home Visit
Policy: Prior to adopting a Wonder Bunny, all potential adopters must undergo a home visit.
Rationale: A home visit allows us to ensure that the environment in which our Wonder Bunny will live is safe and fits their needs. During the home visit, we may make suggestions about the proposed habitat that would better suit our Wonder Bunny. This is not criticism, but feedback to help the adopter make sure their future bunny is happy and the habitat meets their needs.
Location
Policy: Potential adopters must live a reasonable driving distance from the rescue.
Rationale: Prior to adoption, Wonder Bunny volunteers conduct a home visit in-person. Additionally, a Wonder Bunny volunteer will drive the bunny to their new home on the day of the adoption. Driving distances must be reasonable to allow volunteers to make these trips.
Contract
Policy: All adopters must sign an adoption contract.
Rationale: Terms of the contract (see below) include the requirement to return the adopted rabbit to Wonder Bunny if the adopter is no longer able to care for him/her. We are committed to our Wonder Bunnies throughout their lives, so Wonder Bunny alumni in need of a new home will always have one with us.
